This is a book that I enjoyed very much. It shows that the ostentatious display of the newly created wealth of the Gilded Age was not only an American phenomenon, but just as prevalent in Europe. The book is thoroughly researched, extensive footnotes, bibliography and over 80 pages  of sumptuous photos depicting the mansions, interiors and gardens of this now lost era.
